Recall Announced on Infantino SlingRider & Mothering Radio Babywearing Podcast

24 Mar

At long last, the Infantino SlingRider has been recalled.  If you own one of these carriers, please return it to Infantino or destroy it so it can never be used again.  Be aware that other similar bag-style carriers, although not part of this recall, are equally risky, in my opinion, because their design is inherently unsafe for newborns and very young babies, particularly those at extra risk because of prematurity, low birth weight, low muscle tone, or illness.

More details on the recall can be found here:  Infantino Page 1 & Infantino Page 2 & Consumer Product Safety Commission Page

Parents and caregivers should be aware, however, that there are a number of other bag-style carriers still on the market, available both new and used, that, in my opinion, pose a similar suffocation risk as the Infantino Sling Rider. These are pictured in my blog post here and include the Munchkin JellyBean Cargo Sling, the JJ Cole Premaxx, the Boppy Carry in Comfort, and similar styles made by Eddie Bauer and Lamaze. Parents should never use a bag-style carrier with any newborn or baby under four months old.

The Mothering Radio and Parenting Unplugged hour-long show on babywearing safety is now available as a podcast! Click here or here to listen.
